For those in the 'know', The sorting Hat used at Hogwarts uses Legilimency (the ability to mind read) to sort which student goes to which of the Hogwarts four Houses (Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin). The Sorting Hat is thus very important sapient artefact!
