Hand and Nails Vodka Luge from Passion for Ice

Ellie approached us regarding making a Vodka Luge to place along side her Art and work for her Finals at The Wimbledon College of Art. In order for her to graduate, our work had to be good and 'stand-up' along side the superb work she had already created.

Ellie sent us a drawing of the Hand and nail Vodka Luge she wanted.  We tried to replicate it as closely as we possibly could - given the medium of ice. We hope it was close enough.

When we arrived and set up her Luge a crowd appeared out of nowhere. Once we had placed the Vodka Luge in the drain tray, attached the thick-bore tubing (to whisk away the melting ice) set the lighting;  the last thing was to take off the insulation wrapping.  Like any grand unveiling, we got everything ready for Ellie to unveil the piece herself in front of all her peers, guests and tutors. From the expressions and 'wows' uttered from the assembled crowd, I think they all thought it was a truly remarkable piece of art work (and wished they had done the same!).

Many asked if Ellie carved it herself - she bravely said no and pointed towards us. Having an Ice Sculpture or Vodka Luge (as we understand it) had never been done before at the college - this was a first.  A brave first and especially at a Graduation Show.

Ellie put her trust in us to create a close likeness (within the constraints of a single ice block) to recreate her drawing.  We hope we did justice to her fine art work.

In her testimonial, you can see the joy, the elation and the 'thank goodness it is good' on her face.

Thanks Ellie.
