The British have a long association with Cocktail Shakers.  In the 1840's we were using what was commonly termed as The French Shaker, however 80 years later our American cousins favoured their own version.  A two part Shaker consisting of a metal can and a glass that fitted into the metal can.  This became known as The Boston Shaker as Boston was (in the 1920's) at the forefront of American popular Cocktail drinking.  

 

Today, most professionals use the Boston Shaker as their preferred method of making Cocktails.
