Twice a year the sun reaches its highest point the sky - when seen from either the south or north pole. The Summer Solstice is celebrated on the 21st June and the Winter on the 21st December. Technically it can be at any time between 20th and 22nd June (Summer Solstice) and between the 20th and 22nd December (for the Winter Solstice.)
The word Solstice is taken or derived from the Latin word sol (meaning sun) and the Latin word sistere, meaning to stand still.
Over the years we have made a number of Ice Sculptures / Vodka Luges to celebrate these two important dates. Unfortunately we haven't always photographed them. We have now vowed to photograph every Solstice Luge or sculpture we make.
